SEL in California
"The California Department of Education (CDE) is committed to helping educators learn more about SEL and how to make this a part of every child's school experience. To support this work, CDE has joined the Collaborating States Initiative a group of states that share information, best practices, and promising tools and ideas in the interest of building strong Social Emotional Learning in schools across their states. The Collaborating States Initiative is hosted by the Collaborative for Academic Social and Emotional Learning."
California SEL Guiding Principles
On February 23, 2018 the CADOE announced the release of new guiding principles for teaching social and emotional skills, a tool to help educators ensure students have the skills they need for success in school, careers, and in the community. The California SEL Guiding Principles (Full Document; 1 pager) statements were designed to build on the implicit and explicit SEL practices already happening in many schools and to promote intentional use of evidence and research-based practices to guide decision making.
Social and Emotional Learning in California: A Guide to Resources
The CDE identified the goal of curating a collection of systematically gathered, comprehensive and free resources that are aligned with the SEL Guiding Principles. Developed and curated by a cross-agency project team, this vetted resources collection, or Guide, allows California educators to easily access resources as systems move forward with local SEL priorities.
